WHAT’S NEW WITH CABELL COUNTY 4-H?!
4-H CHARTERING
Cabell County 4-H has started a West Virginia chartering group. It is an individual program of self-understanding. It is built to challenge students on your thinking and make you consider a wide variety of personal issues. “Chartering is a process of examining your beliefs, exploring who you are, and learning to make decisions”. To receive the 4-H Chartering Pin, charterers must have completed the 10th grade, two years of 4-H membership, the 4-H Chartering book, and participated in at least one mandatory activity. This year Cabell County has 4 Chartering Girls who have already participated in many activities, one being a tour of WVU along with a football game!
TEEN LEADERS
The Cabell County Teen Leaders just finished up a Health Rocks Teen Leader Weekend. The weekend aloud for middle school students from around the county to participate in a fun weekend at the 4-H camp. Around 30 youth came to the weekend and learned about dealing with stress and drugs and smoking prevention, along with campfires, tie-dying, dancing, hiking, and spending time making new friends.
4-H LIVESTOCK JUDGING
Along with the Agriculture agent, Rich Sherman, a 4-H Livestock Judging team has been started in Cabell County. It is our goal to educate interested 4-Her’s in livestock. Participants will be learning the parts and structure of the animals, livestock qualities and selection, and presentation and oral reasoning skills. Team members will also compete in a few competitions throughout the year.
